January 10, 2019

Dear Ohio Resident Program Directors,

I want to extend a warm welcome to all members and future members of the Ohio Urological Society (OUS). It is time again to start preparing for the 2019 Ohio Urological Society Annual Meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place this year on April 12-13, in Lewis Center (Columbus), OH at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center.

At this time, we would like you to encourage your residents, fellows and medical students to submit an abstract to this meeting as it is our goal to have all Ohio institutions represented. Abstracts can be submitted now by emailing a Word document version to [email protected]. The deadline for submission is Monday, February 11 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Submissions must not exceed a maximum of 350 words (not including title, author, or disclosures). A single figure may be included. Abstracts should include:

  • Title
  • Authors
  • Abstract:
    • Introduction
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Conclusions
  • Disclosures of financial funding and conflicts of interest (if any)
  • Abstract topic (select from list below, all topics accepted)
  • Presenter training level (medical student, resident, fellow)

When submitting your abstract to [email protected] include the following in your email text:

  • Subject Line – 2019 OUS Abstract Submission
  • Name of Presenting Author
  • Email of Presenting Author
  • Institution of Presenting Author
  • Presenter Training Level (Resident, Fellow, Student)
  • Indicate either “Abstract Submission” or “Case submission”
  • *The presenter must complete the OUS disclosure and attach it to the submission: Click Here for Disclosure Document

Submissions will NOT be accepted after the deadline. To increase the diversity of topics presented, as well as allow for sufficient time for each presentation, all submitted abstracts will be reviewed by a designated committee. All abstracts accepted will be presented as posters on Friday evening; the top three abstracts will be presented as podium presentations on Saturday morning. Those whose abstracts are accepted for presentation must be available to present their abstract (no substitute presenters will be allowed). Submitters will be contacted by mid-March 2019.

We are requesting for the submission of abstracts involving ANY urologic topic of interest (i.e. Oncology, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Endourology/Stone Diseases, Andrology/Infertility, Reconstruction/Trauma, Transplant, Female Urology, Pediatric Urology, Benign/General Urology, or Other), and these may include clinical/translational/basic science studies or case series.

We will have a “Resident Bowl” on Saturday, April 13th. We encourage all Programs to nominate 2 residents to compete. In addition, we are accepting cases for the “Interesting and Bizarre Cases” session. All submitted cases will be reviewed by a designated committee who will select the cases to be presented for review during these sessions.

Monetary prizes will be given for the Top Abstracts, Best Poster, and Best Interesting and Bizarre Case accepted. Submitters must be present at the Award Ceremony on Saturday afternoon in order to claim their award (no exceptions).

Please pass along this important information to your residents, fellows and medical students and help us make this a great meeting.

As a reminder, we will once again be offering the Resident Registration Package which includes complimentary meeting registration, tickets to the Welcome Reception and Friday night’s room and tax to all residents. In addition, there will be monetary awards for those residents who have a submission accepted for Podium Presentations. While we have opened the submission process to include fellows and medical students, only residents will be eligible for the Resident Package and monetary awards.

See you in Columbus!

Sincerely,

Eric Fichtenbaum, MD
OUS Resident Representative
